I've been collecting vintage and antique toys, charms, figurines, and oddities for a little while now. In general, I collect smalls and miniatures, so my entire collection almost fits into an old china cabinet. I show my collection to just about anyone who visits. Some people are fascinated and spend a lot of time trying to take it all in and experience the nostalgia of childhood (I used to have that toy!). Others glance through, but don't take much interest. I've noticed how happy and connected I feel when someone really looks and wants to talk about what they see. I know I've found a kindred spirit.
I guess that one of the main joys of collecting is sharing that collection. I've been noodling about creating a blog to highlight my favorites and give some background about them. I'm often inspired in my art by some quirky little toy or figurine I purchased or covet. I think it might be interesting to show that connection between collecting, inspiration, and art here as well.
